Quarterly Staff Column: Financial Planning with Online Banking

Staying on track to financial goals can be a challenge. Sometimes, it feels like the money leaves your account as soon as it arrives! It can be overwhelming to keep an eye on each bill and small purchase, let alone identify where you can cut things out and save money. Luckily, we have a lot of great resources with online banking! See below for some staff favorites:

Capview 360
In the menu, under “Other,” click on Capview 360. You will be able to see an analyzer of your expenses. The system tracks types of purchases and payments for you, so you can easily see your own spending trends. With this tool, you can easily keep track of spending, and even set your a budget to help you manage your money.

Automatic Transfers
For something simpler but still helpful, set up an automatic transfer for yourself. For example, I have set up $100 to automatically transfer each month from checking to savings. That way, the savings is building, but that money is still available if me need it back in my checking account.

Account Alerts
You could also set up account alerts. One that I like is to have an account alert for when your balance hits a specific dollar amount. You’ll get a text message or email, and then you’ll know, “oops, I spent past my limit this month” before you end up going negative or having your card decline.
