Quarterly Staff Column: “Holiday Shopping Routines”

The Holidays are coming soon! Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?

There are a couple of responses I usually get: “Yep, I finished my Christmas shopping in July,” or “What? No way! I haven’t started yet and probably won’t do any until December 24th at 9pm.” Which one are you? I’m in the middle, I try to start early and finish last minute. This year is going to be different, I swear it will. Here’s how:

  • Don’t procrastinate. Set aside time to start and complete your list. It may be a good time to include holiday lists for upcoming parties and gatherings.
  • Make a list with everyone you want to buy for and write down gift ideas. Set a budget for your gifts and set an amount for each person on your list. Stick to it!
  • Stop once you’re done! Once you make the purchase, write the name on the gift and across it off your list. Remember where you hide your gifts.

Keep in mind retailers are still seeing supply chain issues so buy early. If you order online your item could be delayed. Leave time for possible delivery delays. It’s not fun stressing over if your gift will arrive in time.

Most importantly, if you are planning to use credit cards for your purchases, do so wisely. Use points or cashback rewards. Our Capitol View Credit Union Mastercard has a free online management tool and no annual fee. Refinance your loans with different lenders over to Capitol View and receive up to $250 in gift cards. Great gifts to give at no cost to you. Contact us to learn more!
